If you need an easy-to-view GPS, the ultra-thin nüvi 1450, with its large 5-inch screen is what you must have. One thing I hate when driving on a new route is guessing which lane I need to be in to make an upcoming turn. Other drivers aren’t too happy when I move over into their lane either. Lane assist with junction view shows you the correct lane for an upcoming turn or exit, making new intersections and exits easy to travel.
Even road signs and junctions are displayed on your route, and even arrows that indicate the proper lane for navigation.
The nüvi 1450 has advanced navigation features to take the worry out of traveling. With route planning you can save up to 10 routes, mark out way points and see in advance simulated turns on the large screen.
In addition, the 1450 automatically helps you sort and plan multiple stops to provide a gas-saving route for errands, deliveries or sales calls. A trip log provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so you can see where you've been all day on your map.
The smart interface gives you two simple questions to answer: "Where To?" and "View Map." Just touch the color screen to be able to look up addresses and services and get and get a sexy voice to give you turn-by-turn directions that tell you street names on the way to your destination. Naturally it comes preloaded with specific City Navigator NT street maps, nearly 6 million points of interest (POIs), 2-D or 3-D maps and (this is great) the speed limit for most major roads.
If you want to see the territory you are driving through, the digital elevation maps show you shaded contours at higher zoom levels, giving you a picture of the surrounding area. With the 1450's enhanced user services, you can direct your finger to conveniently move between screens. You can even upload custom places you are interested in (POIs).
And if the seconds matter, with HotFix satellite prediction, nüvi calculates your position faster to get you there quicker.
Navigation is just the beginning. As technology continues to improve, the 1450 saves you gas and money with ecoRoute — a green feature that figures out the most gas-saving route, keeps track of fuel used and more.
Other travel tools included with the 1450 are JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with different time zones, money currency converter, measurement converter, a calculator and more. If you like the photo navigation, you can download photos from Garmin Connect Photos and be able to travel to them.
With the handy "Where Am I?" emergency locator, you can always know where you are. All you have to do is tap the screen to get your exact latitude and longitude figures, the closest address and intersection, and the nearest hospitals, police stations and gas stations.
A mind-easing feature is the Garmin Lock, an anti-theft feature, and is compatible with the free Garmin Garage where you can download custom voices and vehicles.
